Ovechkin joins Howe and Gretzky

Third player to reach 800 goals in Pittman League history. Following Gordie Howe and Wayne Gretzky, Alexander Ovechkin scored his 800th career goal on Tuesday as the Washington Capitals visited the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Big 8 seed scored his 798th, 799th and 800th goals during a night of misery for the poor “Hawks”.

The Russian winger took advantage of a great confusion around Peter Mrazek’s goal to complete his hat-trick. The entire Caps team immediately joined their captain on the ice in celebration, as the Caps rained down on the United Centre.

Thus it is only one hit from Howe’s score (801) and 94 goals from Gretzky’s score (894).

Ovechkin is burning these days. He has hit the mark in each of his last four matches, in which he has scored seven times.
