NHL: Ivan Provorov is traded to the Blue Jackets by the Flyers

The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired defenseman Ivan Provorov from the Philadelphia Flyers in a three-team deal that also includes the Los Angeles Kings, according to TSN’s Chris Johnston.

The Kings will keep 30% of Provorov’s salary. In the end, the Kings also received fullback Kevin Connaughton and forward Hayden Hodgson.

Flyers recover Shaun Walker and goaltender Cal Petersen. They also get a Helge Grans prospect and a Kings second-round pick as well as a Blue Jackets first-round pick, 22nd in the upcoming draft.

The initial trade saw Philadelphia trade Provorov and Hayden Hodgson to Los Angeles in exchange for Cal Peterson, Shawn Walker, Helge Grans and the Kings in 2024 second round picks. Columbus then acquired Kevin Connaughton from Philadelphia in exchange for a 2023 first round pick (22nd overall) and a pick Conditioned for the second round in the 2024 or 2025 NHL Draft, the Blue Jackets then acquired Provorov from Los Angeles in exchange for Connauton.

Provorov, 26, scored six goals and 27 points in 82 games for the Flyers last season.

Originally selected with the seventh overall pick in the 2015 draft by the Flyers, Provorov made his debut for the team in the 2016-17 season.

Provorov is entering the fifth season of a six-year, $40.5 million contract signed in September 2019. He will become an unrestricted free agent when his contract expires at the end of the 2024-25 season.

Yaroslavl, originally from Russia, was the first player in the National Hockey League to refuse to wear a Pride-themed jersey last season, citing his “religious beliefs”.

In 532 NHL games, all with the Flyers, Provorov scored 65 goals and 217 points.
