Toyota has issued a safety recall for some Toyota and Lexus vehicles manufactured between 2020 and 2022.

In Canada, 99,965 vehicles were affected by the recall.

The manufacturer’s concerns relate to the Occupant Classification System (OCS) located in the front passenger seat, which could have been caused by a manufacturing error.

Hence, a short circuit would compromise the seat’s sensitivity, which would not be able to properly classify the occupant’s weight and would not trigger the airbag to deploy as expected during some collisions.

Here is the list of affected vehicles.

Toyota:

Avalon, Avalon Hybrid: 2020 – 2021

Camry, Camry Hybrid: 2020 – 2022

Corolla: 2020 – 2021

Highlander, Highlander Hybrid: 2020 – 2021

RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid: 2020 – 2021

Sienna Hybrid: 2021

Lexus:

ES 250: 2021

ES300H: 2020 – 2022

ES350: 2020 – 2021

RX350: 2020 – 2021

RX450h: 2020 – 2021

For all affected vehicles, Toyota and Lexus dealers will inspect the OCS sensors and, if necessary, replace them at no cost to owners, Toyota confirmed.

Toyota will notify affected owners of this issue by mid-February 2024.
