John Schneider will return to captain the Toronto Blue Jays for the 2024 season.

Jays general manager Ross Atkins confirmed his manager’s return in his end-of-season report on Saturday. He added that the rest of the coaching staff will be evaluated by Atkins and decisions still need to be made.

Schneider has been in the spotlight in recent days following the decision to pull infielder Jose Berrios in Game 2 of the series against the Minnesota Twins, a game the Jays ultimately lost 2-0 and suffered elimination.

Berrios was replaced by Yusei Kikuchi after just three innings and a walk in the fourth inning. He threw just 47 pitches and allowed three hits.

For his part, Kikuchi, who is usually sent into the fray as a starter, was on his first rest of the season. The Twins scored two runs in this inning.

The 43-year-old coach has led the Jays to an 89-73 record this season, good for third place.^H Rank in America East and 3rd^H Rank of teams drafted.
