He was forced to sleep in Walmart because of the storm

Shopping at Walmart has turned into an adventure for dozens of shoppers in southern Ontario after they were unable to leave the store due to bad weather outside.

So the staff began inflating mattresses, preparing a full buffet for the stranded customers, the Toronto Star reports.

The cars were in trenches. Some of them broke down in the middle of the road. “Nobody can get through,” said Heather Niccoli, the customer, of the conditions in Chatham-Kent, Ontario, on Friday afternoon.

He and a friend were on their way from Ohio to Peterborough, Ontario, to spend Christmas with family when conditions forced Highway 401 to close.

The couple booked a room in Chatham-Kent and decided to stop at a Walmart on the way, but they didn’t go far for shopping.

The police turned them away, telling them that they would not make it to their hotel and would have to spend the night in the shop.

“We walked into Wal-Mart and there were probably 100 people who had nowhere to go,” he says.

According to Walmart, about 50 customers spent the night in the store, including young children.

The staff even let the kids play with the toys on the shelves.

Another Walmart in Fort Erie, Ont., also took in a stranded family Friday night.
