Conor Bedard wouldn’t be the first member of his family to don a Chicago Blackhawks uniform, the first pick of the last National Hockey League (NHL) draft.

His great uncle James Bedard was a member of the Blackhawks in the 1949-50 and 1950-51 seasons. During his short NHL career, the Saskatchewan native had 2 points, 1 goal and 1 assist in 22 league games.

Bedard then rolled his bump for seven seasons through various small professional circuits.

The former defender died in 1994 at the age of 66.

As a youth prodigy for the Windy City team, he signed his entry-level contract with the Illinois organization on July 17, 2018.H birthday. This three-season contract will bring him $950,000 a year.

In 2022-23, he scored 143 points, including 71 goals, in 57 games with the Regina Bats. He also won the Western League Junior Player of the Year award.
