Big pension file – cheerful with $3,266 a month

A 65-year-old former nurse, proud of her gray hair, is living in retirement dreams of collecting $3,266 a month after 30 years working at a Morrissey hospital.

“I’ve worked for 34 years. I’ve been in the emergency room at La Toke. I’ve had an amazing career. I’m content with my white hair because it’s where I am,” laughs Sylvie Foucher, a 65-year-old retired nurse who met at the retirement summit last Wednesday .

Each month, you receive more than $2,000 from the Commission for Retirement and Insurance Plans (CARRA), $600 from the Quebec Retirement Plan (QPP) and $666 from your old-age pension, for a total of $3,266.

“Not a punishment”

For Sylvie Foucher, the “Freedom 55” mantra has been a reality since she retired at this age, after a career that began at age 21.

“I am lucky. The women and men before us in the Guild fought for us to have a decent life.”

According to the former nurse, we owe a candle of pride to those before her who fought with the sweat of their brow for a generous pension fund.

When asked what message she would like to send to the young nurses, she paraphrased the allure of former Quebec Prime Minister, Jacques Barrezo, who said, “Don’t be afraid.”

“I would tell them not to be afraid of retirement. It’s not a punishment. It’s not an unpleasant time. On the contrary, it’s the most beautiful thing in our lives,” says the one who does such magic.

in registerGrandma says she thrives when she sees her grandchildren grow up day by day. “It’s just fun,” she smiles. “I am retired very well. It is a real gift.”

While some workers see a bleak outlook for leaving their jobs, Sylvie Foucher, who has retired for 10 years, says we have to take the plunge.

“We have to embark on retirement,” concludes the person involved in the community within the professional pool of Retired Health Services Stakeholders (RIIRS).

Founded in 1992, the mission of the Professional Rally of Retired Health Services Stakeholders (RIIRS) is to advocate for the rights of seniors, whose actions allow the voices of its 11,000 members to be heard.
