ATTLNH: Artur Kaliyev suspended for four matches

The National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced it has suspended Los Angeles Kings forward Arthur Kaliyev for two preseason games and two regular-season games after taking a knee strike on the NHL’s Chase De Leo.

Kaliyev received a two-minute minor penalty for his conduct during the 4-1 win over the Ducks.

At 22 years old, he was selected by the Kings with the 33rd overall pick in 2019. He scored 13 goals and scored 28 points last season in 56 games with Los Angeles.

This is the first time in his career that he has been suspended.

Toronto finds Klingberg in training

Defenseman John Klingberg participated in the Toronto Maple Leafs’ optional practice on Thursday as he deals with an upper-body injury.

Klingberg was injured during a September 27 preseason game against the Buffalo Sabers. He hasn’t skated since.

The 31-year-old defenseman agreed to terms on a one-year, $4.15 million contract with Toronto over the summer. Last year he played with the Anaheim Ducks and Minnesota Wild.

He scored 10 goals and 33 points last season in 67 games.

Nylander and Johnson on waivers

The Pittsburgh Penguins released forwards Alex Nylander and Andreas Johnsson on waivers on Thursday.

Nylander, William’s brother (Maple Leafs), is still slow to land a permanent position in the NHL. Last season, he played just nine games with Pittsburgh, recording two points. However, in 55 games in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the AHL, he had 50 points including 25 goals.

As for Johnson, he played 11 games with the Sharks last season. The Swedish forward signed a one-year contract this summer with the Penguins.
