Artistic swimming champion Sylvie Frechette, who created the dream of generations of athletes during the 1990s, returns to competition after being away from the spotlight for several decades.
Former Olympian Sylvie Frechette, 56, returns to competition this weekend.
“I really wanted to live in the moment. We agreed that I no longer had the same reference points as before,” she explains.
Sylvie impressed the audience with her resilience, determination and impeccable attitude at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and the artistic swimmer recently returned to the same venue with her daughters.
“When I returned to Barcelona, at the end of the day, I was told that they had a surprise for me. They brought back the music and the atmosphere of Barcelona. It is inexplicable. Without even thinking about it, my body went back to doing the Barcelona routine, and when I finished, I was so ecstatic, and I looked To my daughters and I said, “I think my mom should swim,” she says.
It was this visit to Barcelona, according to Sylvie Frechette, that “reignited the flame.”
The former Olympian performed again with her daughter as coach.
