An important clue about CH’s strategy was revealed in the fifth position

The Canadiens will draft the player they consider the best player available in the fifth overall draft in the next draft.

At least that’s what Michel Therrien said during “La Poche Bleue le midi” on Tuesday.

“In a situation like this, the important thing is to go with the best player. Me, I’ll go with the most talented guy who can have the most impact on your team. It’s tough, but in my opinion, they’ll go with the player with the most potential. They’ll ignore everything.” Everyone I worked with always went with the best player they thought possible.”

The former coach also compares the profile of Matvey Michkov and that of Logan Mailou in 2021.

“If we make the comparison to Logan Mallo, he was probably on all the rosters. At the time, I was in Philadelphia and I personally asked the general manager, Chuck Fletcher, where he was on our roster. He answered me between 10 and 15, but I don’t remember exactly that.

Therrien admits that even if the Flyers loved the player that was Logan Mailloux, it would have been impossible for the owners to claim him.

When there is controversy and it gets more difficult, it is often the owners who make the final decision. In the case of Logan Mailou, several clubs had wanted to sign him before, but he asked not to be drafted. On the Flyers side, there was no question of Comcast crafting a player and having negative implications for the company.
