This was announced by the Ministry of Health in a press release on Thursday morning.
This decision follows an update of the views of the Commission on Immunization of Quebec (CIQ).
Therefore, for the mRNA vaccines (Pfizer and Moderna), the time period recommended for the majority of people will be increased from 16 to 8 weeks or more to achieve a higher immune response more quickly. “It is important that the offer to provide the second dose of the vaccine be made according to a priority-setting schedule established by age groups, as the elderly are most likely to develop complications from COVID-19,” the report said.
For people who are immunosuppressed or on dialysis, the second dose should be offered after four weeks.
Legault’s government should reveal its plan to administer these second doses as early as Thursday afternoon.
Remember, Quebec’s goal is to vaccinate 75% of the population over the age of 12 by August 31.
