The numbers are especially high: Between 12,000 and 18,000 new infections could be reported per day at the end of May, according to the CP24 website, adding that the number of patients in intensive care could exceed 1,600.
Consequently, two-thirds of the 2,300 intensive care beds will be occupied by COVID patients making care nearly impossible for patients not infected with COVID.
The Ontario Prime Minister’s Office met on Thursday to study various scenarios for tighter health measures.
Sources told CP24 that construction sites will be closed which does not affect urgent infrastructure. New limits will be imposed on non-essential manufacturing and warehouse industries. Fines will be imposed on non-essential companies that refuse to allow their employees to work remotely when they are able to do so.
Also on the list: Ban on indoor weddings, funerals, and religious services. A formal curfew can be imposed.
It could also grant more powers to law enforcement.
Ontario recorded 4,736 new infections on Thursday, the highest since the start of the epidemic.
