There are just a little over three weeks left until the NHL Draft. Therefore, in 24 days, we will know who will be the player selected first by the Canadians (plus 31 other youngsters who will have the opportunity to have their names heard at the Bell Center).
Shane Wright remains the favorite, but Juraj Slavkowski is still in the midst of controversy. More and more, we feel it narrows between the two, to the point that some believe it could be a “head or tail”.

Matthias Brunet, who had been leaning toward Slavkovsky for a while now, decided to indulge in an interesting exercise: compare Wright’s game to that of Nick Suzuki during his rookie year.

Brunet explains that, in the draft year, the players are at the same offensive level. However, defensively, it gives an advantage to Suzuki, particularly due to his exceptional sense of anticipation.
Basically, in their annual draft, Suzuki was slightly ahead of Wright, according to Brunt. I haven’t seen Suzuki play enough during his draft year, so I’ll rely on Brunet’s analysis.
However, where my opinion differs from Brunet’s is when he asserts that CH does not really benefit from crafting a player similar to Suzuki with his choice and that he should choose a more different profile.
Personally, having another player similar to Suzuki in the team’s second line in the long run is far from an idea that I don’t like. If Wright plays like Suzuki right now, CH will be in the car in the middle at top 6 for Different Years.
Yes, we’ll have to find them wings eventually, and Slavkovsky is an attractive option, but for my part, I’d rather have good positions and surround them afterwards than do the process in reverse.
So we’ll see if CH chooses Suzuki 2.0 or Slafkovsky. At least, there are only 24 days left to wait before getting the answer…
