The Lamentin Rotary Club has donated five exoskeletons worth €5,140. In particular, they will relieve staff when they have to transport patients.
It’s a gladly welcome gift for CHU in Martinique. Rotary Club Lamentin presented five exoskeletons worth €5,140 on Thursday, May 5th. This technology is intended for healthcare professionals. It comforts them when they have to take care of the sick.
The Covid-19 pandemic has amplified musculoskeletal disorders according to CHU representatives, particularly with ‘abdominal recumbency’. “This manipulation consists of turning the patient over on his stomach to help him breathe better,” CHU explains. He adds: “This requires in the case of obese patients a large number of staff, for the sake of patient safety and patient safety.”
“wear like a dress”
This technology makes it possible in particular to reduce the workload and muscle fatigue. In fact, the tissue’s elasticity stores energy “when the user leans forward and releases the same energy as when one begins to lift the body, providing up to 10 kg of assistance to the muscles of the back, legs, and hips,” details CHU from Martinique. According to the latter, the exoskeleton is “worn like a garment.” So it can be used in many situations, especially in small spaces.
for several hospitals
These materials are intended above all for health workers in intensive care units, but also in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Mangot Vulcin Hospital and the long-term care unit at the Domergue Trinité Hospital. “These services share the need to mobilize patients with limited mobility due to their health condition,” concludes CHU.
