A former CH player has been suspended for a violent blow in Switzerland

The Swiss National League’s Disciplinary Service on Sunday imposed a three-game suspension on Magnus Negrin, a former Montreal Canadiens player, for checking his head for a dangerous opponent.

Last Friday, the 31-year-old HC Davos defender delivered a powerful shoulder kick to Rapperswil-Jonah Lakers’ Sandro Forer’s head during a playoff game.

The disciplinary report, which took into account that Negrin apologized to his victim, reads: “The contact was not accidental and the blow was very violent.”

The Swede, who was selected in the fourth round of the Hab in the 2011 draft, also received a fine of CHF5,400, an amount that includes “procedural costs”.

Between 2013 and 2014, Nygren played 31 games spread over two campaigns with the club’s school club at the time, the Hamilton Bulldogs.

Suffering from a concussion, he returned to Sweden in January 2015 and continued his career with Färjestad BK the following year.

Nygren joined HC Davos in 2017.
