The 70thH Carnival de Quebec on Thursday unveiled its family-friendly, cultural and sporting activities offered across the city in order to “spread the enthusiasm of Carnival” everywhere.
With partner events, Péchés gourmands, Skating with Bonhomme or SAIL Effigies Rally, the activities offered should satisfy a very wide audience.
After announcing last October more than 100 activities in five locations, Carnival Quebec added details of its enhanced offer.
“The key is to stay close to our community. Promoters are creative and produce their event inspired by Carnival,” explained Marie-Eve Jacob, general manager of Carnival Québec.
For three weeks, the organization wants citizens to be able to celebrate in their neighbourhoods, in their restaurants, in their bars and in the city centre, at Bonhomme Palace.
Sled dog racing
Partner events have been very popular for several years, and have made a significant comeback. All of Quebec City’s boroughs will host at least one event, as well as Saint-Augustin-de-Desmoris, Saint-Catherine-de-la-Jacques-Cartier, Île d’Orléans and Lévis.
The carnival will also travel to Lotbinière in 2024. Fans are invited to experience sled dog racing in the Lotbinière Grizzly Diet Challenge, the most popular race in eastern North America.
“We have more than 200 teams from Quebec, Canada and the United States. The carnival had sled dog races until 2014, and we will be back this year,” says David Morrow, co-organiser.
A partnership with Carnival can enhance the international aspect of the competition. “It opens doors for sponsors. It’s easier,” Sandra Plourde beams.
Sliding city
Moreover, during the weekend in the Cité de glides, two special activities will be organized in Old Quebec. First up, there will be Swing&Glisse, an event highlighting the 1884 slide on the Dufferin Terrace and the ice rink at Place d’Youville.
More than forty restaurants in the Quebec region will also be serving dishes for this new carnival show.
Once again this year, Bonhomme will travel everywhere to meet carnival participants on ice rinks in various neighborhoods.
The 70thH The Quebec Carnival will take place from January 25 to February 11.
Citizens will be able to rush towards the Pente-Douce coast in Crazy carpetRue de la Promenade-des-Sœurs, in Cap-Rouge, by rafting and the Rousse coast by inner tubes.
