Will Smith, the Hollywood star who shocked many of his fans and the movie world by slapping Chris Rock on the Oscars stage, released a video Friday apologizing to the comedian.

The “Men In Black” and “Independence Day” star apologized in a press release the day after that blower, which overshadowed the entire Oscars ceremony on March 27. Additional details from Will Smith about his feelings this time around.
“I called Chris and the message came back that he is not ready to talk, and when he is he will call me,” he said, wearing a white beret on his head, in this nearly six-minute video that was shared on social networks.
“So I say to you, Chris, I apologise. My behavior was unacceptable, and I am here as soon as you are ready to speak,” he added, sitting in an armchair and surrounded by green plants.
He also apologized to Chris Rock’s mother and brother, as well as to his family, including his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
That evening, it was a joke from Chris Rock about shaving her head, and she suffers from alopecia areata – a disease that causes severe hair loss, which she revealed she had a few years ago – which sparked a ‘scandal’.
Suddenly Will Smith stepped onto the stage and slapped Chris Rock under the gaze of a stunned celebrity and spectator.
“Leave my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth!” exclaimed the 53-year-old – who shortly after won a Best Actor award for his role in The Williams Method -. back in his chair.
“I’ve spent the past three months rebooting and (trying) to understand the nuances and hardships of what happened” that day, Will Smith said in his video.

“I’m not going to try to analyze all of this now, but I can tell all of you that there was no part of me that thought that was the right way to act at the time,” he added.
Saying that he deeply regrets having disappointed his fans, he explained that he is trying to “feel remorse without being ashamed” of himself.
He concluded, “I am a human being and I have made a mistake, and I try not to think of myself as an idiot.”
