The Food Inspection Agency is recalling 20 energy drinks

(Ottawa) The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is expanding a recall of energy drinks to more than 20 brands.

This recall was initiated in July because certain beverages failed to meet various caffeine content requirements and bilingual labeling requirements.

Sonic the Hedgehog, Toxic Rick, and Liquid Rage are among the brands that have been added to the list in recent days.

Other caffeinated energy drinks, including Monster and Prime, were part of previous recall notices.

The advice issued on Tuesday says people should not consume, serve or sell the recalled drinks.

Health Canada warns that high levels of caffeine can cause adverse health effects, especially in children, pregnant or breastfeeding women, people sensitive to caffeine, and people who exercise while consuming it.

The agency notes that side effects of caffeine can include insomnia, irritability, headaches and nervousness.

The recall notice states that no illnesses caused by energy drinks have been reported.

A full list of problematic energy drinks can be found on the Government of Canada website regarding recalls and safety alerts.
