The US military said that searches were conducted on Wednesday to find five US soldiers in a helicopter that had not arrived the day before at its destination in California.
The five Marines departed Creech Air Force Base, Nevada, on Tuesday for Base Miramar, Southern California, by helicopter when the aircraft was “reported to be delayed,” he wrote in a news release.
The helicopter in question is a CH-53E Super Stallion. The Marine Corps “is coordinating search and rescue operations with the San Diego County Sheriff's Team and Civil Air Patrol,” the statement added.
The fate of the machine is not yet known, but a series of accidents involving American military aircraft occurred last year, including the crash of an Osprey plane off the coast of Japan at the end of last November, which led to the deaths of eight people. .
Other tragedies: Five American soldiers lost their lives that same month when their helicopter crashed in the Mediterranean Sea during training, and an Osprey plane crashed in August in Australia, killing three Marines.
