Sydney, Australia has proudly reclaimed the title “New Year’s Eve Capital of the World”. A giant firework display with nearly 100,000 pyrotechnic devices was launched from the harbor there. More than a million people are expected to attend, while officials estimate the number of people watching the event online or on TV at nearly half a billion.

Some islands in the Pacific, such as Kirimati or the Samoan Islands, celebrated the transition to the New Year before us French people. If the fireworks are grander than in Australia or New Zealand, the heavenly setting of the festivities need not pale in comparison to the big cities.

After Oceania, it will be Asia’s turn to enter in 2023, starting with Japan and South Korea.
