Mexico: Six dead in a new attack during a private ceremony

At least six people were killed Friday morning in northwestern Mexico during a new armed attack during a private party, this time targeting the alleged leader of a criminal gang, prosecutors said.

At least 26 people were injured during this attack recorded in the state of Sonora, less than two weeks after 11 young men were killed in the center of the country.

Three armed men stormed a 15-year-old girl's birthday party, a tradition deeply rooted in Mexican and South American families.

The attackers targeted a “criminal group leader” accused of murdering women, kidnapping and criminal association, according to the Public Prosecution’s press release.

The targeted person was killed, in addition to five other people, three men and three women, according to the prosecution.

On December 17, 11 young people were killed in the central state of Guanajuato during a “pre-Christmas party.”

The strangers wanted to invite themselves by force, but the group asked them to leave. The rioters then returned accompanied by men armed with rifles, according to the prosecution.

Security expert David Saucedo, consulted by AFP, indicates that one of the organizers of the party was the victim of extortion by criminal groups.
