The citizens of Saint-Élie-de-Caxton, in Mauricie, have the impression that they are living in a new confinement, but this time, due to a locust infestation.
Insects destroyed much of the population.
“There was no lawn, no garden, no flowers, and there they began to eat the mosquito net,” Marlene Moyes, a resident of Saint-Ile-de-Caxton, laments.

One specialist believes that the locust infestation, which is limited to one sector of the municipality at the moment, may be exacerbated in the coming weeks by the mutations.
The latter says that the wings can grow on locusts, allowing them to move to another location in the area.

In front of the scale of the situation, citizens demanded the municipality to put an end to this outbreak.
The city of Saint-Élie-de-Caxton replied that this file was the responsibility of the county government.
In the member’s office, we seem to be looking for whom to turn.
The Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks as well as the Ministry of Environment were contacted, but to no avail.
The member’s office is now looking to the Department of Agriculture to try and find a solution.
