Colombia | Shakira is immortalized with a statue in her hometown

(Barranquilla) Her arms are crossed above her head, her stomach is in the air, and her torso is tilted in the famous hip move: singer Shakira has been immortalized since Tuesday through a statue inaugurated in her hometown of Barranquilla, Colombia.

The 6.5-metre-tall bronze and aluminum monument depicts the pop star performing one of her signature dance moves, wearing a brown bra and a long skirt of the same colour.

“Hips that don't lie, an incomparable talent, a voice that touches the masses,” says the base of the statue, which was unveiled in a public ceremony on the banks of the Magdalena River in Barranquilla, on the northern coast of Colombia, in the presence of the singer's parents, William Mebarak and Nydia Ripoll.

“Thank you to the sculptor Yno Márquez and the students of the district art school for this illustration of the enormous artistic talent of the people of my country,” Shakira wrote on X.

The 46-year-old international star resumed his professional career this year with Bizrah Music Sessions, Vol. 53Which recounts his difficult breakup with former footballer Gerard Pique. Created in collaboration with Argentine DJ Bizarrap, the song instantly became a global hit and won the 2023 Latin Grammy Award for Song of the Year.

Shakira has also made headlines for her troubles with the law in Spain, where she was fined more than seven million euros in November for tax evasion and is still subject to several proceedings.
