Bonhomme conquers Limoilou: the first dazzling night show of the 70th Carnival

It was a Saturday evening party in Lower Quebec City with several thousand people blowing their horns along Third Avenue. The street where the allegorical floats and king of the party, Bonhomme, were paraded on the occasion of the first night parade of the 70th Quebec Carnival.

Fireworks, dances, circus, all the ingredients are brought together to spread the magic of Carnival in Limoelo. Even Mother Nature joined the party even though the temperature was far from the -25 degrees that nearly caused the premiere to be canceled last year.

“Everything was perfect. It was a lot of fun and there was definitely something for everyone. I really liked that almost everything was at a good height for the kids, which made the show even more fun for them,” says Melanie Labonte-Coté, who came with her three children. “.

Despite the amazing performance by about 350 artists, it was the birthday boy who stole the show. Bonhomme, sitting on top of his giant birthday cake, was undoubtedly the most anticipated of all and true to form, he had enough energy.

“He was my favourite. “I was really looking forward to seeing him and what's more was he was really handsome,” adds his daughter Simone.

Near Ninth Street, other families were gathering around the fence, all looking for a better angle to enjoy the aerobatics spinning through the air accompanied by lights twinkling like children's eyes.

“The show is amazing. We used to come year after year, and frankly, they went out of their way to celebrate the 70th anniversary,” says Jérôme Cloutier, accompanied by his partner Marie and granddaughter Lou Anna.

“We traveled an hour and a half to come and enjoy the carnival activities today. It is one of the beautiful displays I have seen, hats off to everyone who worked on it. It ended our day really well,” adds Denis Lacombe alongside his wife Pauline.

Joy also appeared on the face of the Carnival's General Director, Marie-Eve Jacob, who seemed very satisfied with the participation.

“We couldn't be happier. Absolutely all the components are there. The weather is beautiful and the people are there, and it motivates the artists even more.” Newspaper.
