BK Suban did not want to leave Montreal

Brilliant former defender BK Suban “never wanted to play anywhere but Montreal,” he revealed in a podcast.

All the days of hommage that have been preserved avant the duel between the Canadien and Predators of Nashville at Center Bell, January 12, the analysis of ESPN’s review by fait un passage remarque au balado «The Pivot Podcast», la last week.

“The time I spent in Montreal was one of the nicest, turbulent moments of my career, without a doubt, as much as former number 76. I don’t think hockey and its culture was really ready for the kind of athlete I was.”

After receiving the Norris Trophy, awarded to the best defenseman on the Pittman circuit, in 2013, Subban entered heated contract negotiations with general manager Mark Bergevin. The two, far from sympathizing, went to arbitration before Suban signed a nine-year, $72 million contract in 2014.

“It shouldn’t be that complicated,” said the 33-year-old. I grew up as a Habs fan in Toronto. I never wanted to play anywhere else in my career.

“If they came to me after I won the Norris Cup and said, ‘You excelled, you accomplished what you said you would do and we want you to be a part of the Canadiens for the rest of your career,’ I’d accept a $7 million annual salary.”

It should be remembered that CH traded its star defenseman for future captain Shea Weber, back in 2016. A deal that still leaves a bitter taste in the mouth of the one who then donned the New Jersey Devils colors.

He concluded, “The tradition in Montreal is to trade all-star players whose name becomes more important than the team.” What happened to me is consistent with the rest of the story.”
