A 14-year-old Austrian girl has died of metastatic cancer that cannot be treated. Her parents, who tried to treat her with cinnamon and cloves, risk jail time.
In February 2023, the girl was admitted to an Austrian hospital. But doctors can no longer do anything for her: she suffers from a very dangerous generalized cancer. She died a few days after admission, at the age of 14 according to our Swiss colleagues Blake.
Previously, the Austrian had already lost a lot of weight in a short time. She also suffered from swallowing problems, difficulty breathing, and signs of paralysis.
Honey and cloves as medicine
Today, her parents are accused of inflicting “physical suffering” on their daughter. The Federal Ministry of Justice also accuses them of leaving her “defenseless due to her weakness and illness” and not “adequately informing her about her illness, its development and treatment possibilities.”

A few months before she was admitted to the hospital, a tumor was discovered in the young woman's foot. But the parents preferred to use “healers” rather than traditional medicine. The girl was treated with a mixture of honey, ginger, cinnamon and cloves. The therapists defend themselves and say they pushed her parents to admit the girl to the hospital.

The parents risk up to three years in prison but do not feel guilty. According to them, it was the “assertive and self-confident” girl who wanted to be treated this way.
