COVID-19: Seven new cases Thursday

New Brusnwick Public Health reported seven new cases of COVID-19 Thursday, as vaccination rates continue to rise.

There are six cases in Zone 1 (Moncton area), one person aged 19 or younger, one person aged 20-29 and four people aged 30-39.

There is one case in Zone 3 (Fredericton area), in a person between the ages of 60 and 69.

All of these cases are related to travel, determining public health.

“This sudden increase in the number of cases shows us that we are not done with COVID-19 yet,” said Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jennifer Russell.

“This is why it is so important that New Brunswickers protect themselves and everyone around them from serious diseases by getting vaccinated as quickly as possible.”

The county’s active case count is now eight, up six from the previous day and one from last week.

Additionally, 55% of New Brunswick residents age 12 and older have been fully immunized and 80.1% have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The national averages as of mid-afternoon on Thursday were 53% and 78.8%, respectively.

Finally, New Brunswickers who have received AstraZeneca for your first dose of the vaccine and who wish to receive AstraZeneca with a second dose with informed consent can make an appointment at clinics organized by Health Network. Vitalité and Horizon Health Network.
