10H An edition of the Dodgers’ LGBTQIA2S+ Pride Night featured the removal of a few hundred Catholic Association demonstrators who came to protest the initiative outside the stadium on Friday night in Los Angeles.
A Catholic congregation based in Phoenix held what it called a “prayer procession” in a parking lot outside the stadium.
Many people dressed in red in honor of the Sacred Heart and held up banners with messages expressing their disapproval of the Dodgers’ overture.
Among those posters, one evoked former Dodgers handler Vin Scully, who was a devout Catholic. On this label we read “The wine is sad”.
Another sign said “respect the rules of behavior for dodgers” and not “mock religion”.
Some professional athletes have, in recent years, refused to participate in the various events organized by their team in celebration of diversity.
Last season, five Tampa Bay Rays pitchers pleaded their religion to refuse to wear a Pride uniform.
Earlier this season, Toronto Blue Jays quarterback Anthony Bass had to apologize after speaking out on social media for supporting an anti-LGBTQIA2S+ campaign by Bud Light and Target.
A few NHL players have also decided not to wear a rainbow-style jersey during warm-ups for their Pride Knights team this season. Among them, in particular, were Denis Guryanov, Ivan Provorov, Ilya Lyubushkin and Andrey Kuzmenko, as well as brothers Eric and Mark Stahl.
