WHL: Conor Bedard gives Pats the win by five points

Conor Bedard scored a hat-trick and added two assists to help the Regina Bats defeat the Saskatoon Blades 6-5 in overtime.

Stanislav Svozel scored the game-winning goal to give the Pats a 2-0 lead in their first-round series against the Blades. Saskatoon has so far collected 29 more points than the Pats in the standings in the regular season.

Svozil quickly gave his team a head start by completing a play staged by Alexander Suzdalev and Bedard. Svozil was instrumental in Bedard’s opening goal.

Another leading scorer for the Pats was Zach Stringer, who will try to continue their momentum in front of their home fans on Tuesday night.

Justin Lyes, Lucas Hansen, Josh Pillar, Jayden Wiens and Von Watertrot outlasted Drew Sim. The Pats goalkeeper made 42 saves in the win.

Austin Elliott was thrown out of the game after giving up four times in front of only 13 shots. Substitute Ethan Chadwick fared slightly better, allowing two goals on six shots.

After scoring 71 goals and 72 assists in 57 games this season, Bédard continues his demolition work in the playoffs. He had five goals and three assists in the two games he played for Saskatoon.
