To the extent that it shakes up the giant YouTube, short video sites are on the rise. Instagram or Google’s recent efforts with YouTube shorts confirm the trend, but Dictoc is just setting the pace.
The Chinese app Fight Dance crushed everything in its path and recently gave the title of the most downloaded app in the world, once again surpassing the American behemoths Facebook and Snapshot.
According to a recent report by app analytics firm App Annie, TickTalk is now leading the way in the US in the US and UK on average per user per month.
Across the Atlantic, the use of Pythons overtook YouTube in terms of available brain time, and its users spent an average of more than 24 hours a month on Google video platforms, over 22 hours and over 40 minutes.
This trend is even more evident in the UK when Dictac surpassed its rival in May 2020, with an average viewing time of less than 16 hours compared to 16 hours on YouTube.
Although YouTube has a huge lead in this country (over 15 hours to 39 hours) we can also notice significant improvement in South Korea.
This data is interesting, but it should be noted that this only applies to Android users, The Verge recalls. In fact, the iOS ecosystem is not calculated and the statistics do not take into account the Chinese version of Dictok, Douyin.
However, this confirms Dictok’s meteorite rise in recent months, which has not been affected by U.S. threats and controversy.
Globally, however, YouTube is ahead of the game and tops the list of time spent on “social and entertainment apps” on Android.
The site is supported by its two billion monthly users and is ahead of Facebook Empire with its Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram applications. With 700 million users per month worldwide, Dictoc was ranked fifth in the first half of 2021 and was ahead of Facebook Messenger.
Here again, Chinese usage was not in this ranking in 2018 and was ninth in 2019.
In the summer, however, Dictok changed his strategy by hosting videos of up to three minutes. It should be noted that the platform has been made up of the same players since 2013, with WhatsApp (topping in 2013 and 2014), Facebook (numbering from 2015 to 2017) and YouTube dominating this ranking from 2018 onwards.
Snapshot is also in excellent shape
In France, DickTalk is at the bottom of the platform and ahead of Instagram and Snapshot.
In addition to the success of the Chinese site, the report also returns to the format of Snapshot. The little ghost that promotes dictatorship, doubling its revenue in the second quarter of 2021, is growing internationally.
Outside the US, Snapchat downloads have increased by 45% in the last 12 months. The app has grown especially in Asia, Latin America and the Middle East, with downloads increasing by 190% in India.
The service has also grown in Pakistan, Brazil and Mexico.
Coming back to the Snap team, it has faced difficulties and many competitors in recent times.
The latter did not hesitate to take the key features of Snapshot, however without extinguishing the Phantom company’s ambitions.
