The UAE telecom service said on Twitter that a fire broke out in the main Dubai port on Wednesday evening, after an explosion was heard across the city.
It was reported that a fire broke out in a container inside a ship anchored in Jebel Ali Port. The communications service said that the civil defense team in Dubai is working to put out the fire.
At least three residents of the area of this incident reported that the doors and windows in their homes were severely shaken by the explosion.
“I was on my balcony. My friend saw something going yellow like the sun. I took a picture and then we heard the noise,” said Clemens Lifax, who was near the explosion and posted a picture of a bright orange light in the sky, in the middle of the night, facing the buildings.
A citizen of the Medina neighborhood, near the port, told AFP that she “saw the windows shaking.” She added, “I’ve lived here for fifteen years and this is the first time I’ve seen and heard something like this.”
The Emirate of Dubai, one of the seven emirates that make up the wealth of the United Arab Emirates, is considered very safe.
