U17 World Cup – Group A: USA v Brazil in quarterfinals

Alain and Laura duo, Gabi Berchon’s opener, Brazil mostly won against India (5-0), already eliminated. Brazil will face Germany in the quarter-finals.

Despite Morocco’s three points against India, in a group that had little suspense ahead of this third day, Brazil got the job done against the hosts by winning their match. It was Gabi Perchon who opened the scoring after a great performance by Allin when Johnson missed a great chance early in the game (2′), again at the work of Allin (12′). The first goalscorer of the evening then missed the target with a free kick (35′) but Brazil added a second goal before the break, Aline’s work on a service from Ana Flavia (41′). In a one-sided match, Brazil were serious, nothing more.
Aline would quickly add a second individual goal in the second half with a fine strike from Rebecca (51′). Laura’s strike from the free kick was stopped by Geisham (62′) and chances continued to flow for Brazil, but not dangerously. The Indian defense somehow resisted, but Laura had to bow again with two excellent long shots from twenty meters (87′, 90 + 3). Brazil won the final 5-0 to finish second in their group and will therefore face Germany in the quarter-finals. India ended their campaign with three defeats and no goals in three games. This comes as no surprise, and shows the scale of work ahead of Thomas Tennerby. Brazil would have shown an interesting face in this group stage, the team would certainly have been more “killer” in front of the opposition goals.
