Two brothers exchanged for each other

Brothers Nick and Brett Ritchie can now be proud of experiencing an event very special for themselves, their families and their respective teams, as they participated on Friday in a deal struck by the Calgary Flames and Arizona Coyotes.

At the NHL trade deadline, Nick Richie went from the Arizona Coyotes to the Calgary Flames, while his brother took the opposite path. Team Alberta also got their hands on defender Troy Stecher and added FC Tempe’s Connor McKee.

In the American desert, Nick scored 21 points, including nine goals, in 58 games during the current season. In Calgary, Brett was known for his defensive skills and had eight points in 34 games. With seven assists in 61 games this season, Schechter, 28, has 96 points in 420 games in the Pittman League. Finally, Mackey only played 10 games with the Flames and scored three points.

Both brothers would see their contracts expire at the end of the season.

Trades involving two brothers aren’t just rare in the NHL. In North America, you have to look to the NBA and go back to 2008 to see another such exchange. The Los Angeles Lakers then pulled off a coup by getting their hands on superstar power wing Pau Gasol, from the Memphis Grizzlies, in particular in exchange for the rights to his brother Mark. The Spaniards won at least one NBA championship after this deal.
