Today CAN 2022 Football Matches: Tables, TV Shows, Results of Matches in USA and Canada

The African Nations Cup (CAN) has finally arrived, with Cameroon hosting the tournament starting on Sunday, the opening day of the tournament.

The Indomitable Lions, who last won the tournament in 2017, will be one of 24 nations looking to make Algeria the next African champions. Led by Manchester City’s Riyadh Mahrez and striker Baghdad Bounetza, the Algerians beat Senegal in the final in 2019 to embark on a memorable journey to a second CAN crown. The bookmakers ’favorite Senegal, who wins everything, is expected to return to the run and open the game on the second day of the tournament.

Senegal has the leading stars led by Liverpool’s Sadio Mane. His club teammate Mohamed Salah will be the biggest star of the event and will be under pressure to help Egypt win their first AFCON Championship since 2010. Ajax striker Sebastien Holler (Ivory Coast) is another worthy candidate to play AFCON.

As the Govt-19 vulnerabilities around the world are increasing due to the Omigran variant, precautionary measures are being taken by the organizers and matches will be held in front of small crowds as only vaccinated fans will be allowed. It is clear that there will be no carry over and that 11 players will be enough for any team to enter the field. Extended lists of 28 players and five substitutes (including the sixth for extra time) will help coaches deal with potential explosions.

CAN 2022 Matches today

As usual at major football events around the world, the host country will start in Group A.

Cameroon are considered the best team in their four-man squad, but they will conduct a tricky opening test against a competitive Burkina Faso team. Following the match, the other two teams in Division A will face each other at the same Olympic Stadium in the capital, Yaound.

Burkina Faso are predicted to be the second best team in the group, battling for second place behind the Lions who did not belong to Cape Verde, and the bookmakers are desperate for Cameroon to finish first in Group A. Ethiopia don’t have much of a chance to advance, but it will misrepresent the skepticism of a solid starter.

CAN 2022 Competitive format

Like other Continental Championships and World Cups, the Africa Cup of Nations starts with a group stage, followed by knockout rounds until the final.

  • Team Status: January 9-20
  • Round 16: January 23-26
  • Quarter final: January 29-30
  • Semi-final: 2-3 February
  • Third place: February 6
  • Final: February 6

The 24 countries are divided into six groups of four countries each. At the end of a round robin team match – three points for one win, one for a draw and none for defeat – the first two teams in each group (and tiebreaker, if necessary) qualify for the knockouts. The remaining seats in the 16th round will be occupied by the top four thirds of the partners.

The pre-determined knockout team will play until the final. If a knockout match ends in a tie after 90 minutes, teams will play 30 minutes of extra time. If the draw lasts, the penalty shootout will determine which team should pass. Only the game for third place will go straight to the penalty kick by Diane, except for extra time.

Who will win in CAN 2022?

Judging by the BetMGM odds, we could be in another Senegal-Algeria final. All nations had a slim chance of winning, and their odds were reduced just a week before the CAN kick-off. Senegal have a slight advantage over defending champions Algeria.

It is not surprising to see some of the other traditional African powers on the list of 10 countries most likely to win, but from the movement of contradictions, it seems that Nigeria has been pushed out of trade, with Egypt, Ghana and Tunisia leading the way. . At the top.
