A few days ago, American actor Brad Pitt revealed that he has a facial recognition disorder. But what does this mean?
What is a face recognition uncle?
“It just means the inability to recognize faces. When your eyes receive images, this signal is sent to the brain with its various structures, including the occipital lobe. The images are analyzed in this way,” explained Dr.s Julian J. Kavanagh.
Who can suffer from it?
“Humans are not the only ones who have the ability to recognize faces. Some animals have this ability as well. There are humans who are born without this ability. There are others who lose this ability due to a tumor, an autoimmune disease or a stroke.”
Brad Pitt is also one of those people who has never had this ability.
“But we don’t know to what degree. The experience he shares is that during Hollywood events, he had a reputation for being arrogant and not caring about other people, but in fact, he finds it hard to get to know him.”
How many people live with this?
“What is striking is that people who are born like him are not necessarily aware of it. So it is difficult to know how many people have it. We have more data on people who have lost amplitude, but it is still rare,” Mr. Kavanagh said.
