The number of beneficiaries of employment insurance in Quebec increased by 7.4% during July 2022, making it one of the three provinces with the largest increase in the country.

Thus, 9,000 Quebecers took advantage of work insurance compared to the previous month, according to Statistics Canada data published on Thursday.
In the metropolitan census area (CMA) of Montreal, we found the most beneficiaries in the province, with 49,060 people in July (+11.5%), followed by the Quebec region (8690, +1.8%).
The largest monthly increase in CMA was seen in Ottawa Gatineau, part of Quebec, where it jumped 15.3% for the number of 3,460 beneficiaries.
British Columbia (+9.6%) and Manitoba (+9.2%) are the other two provinces ahead of Quebec in terms of this increase.
Nationwide, 506,000 Canadians received regular EI benefits, which is a 2.9% increase between June and July 2022. This is the first jump not related to health restrictions since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
