The new update of WhatsApp gives you more control over your privacy – Marseille News

A new beta update for WhatsApp is rolling out, with a new privacy feature that will make it easy to avoid certain contacts or hide your information from specific users.

The update, which was spotted by WABetaInfo, adds a new option for the Last Seen privacy setting. Previously, this gave users the option to show their status to everyone, their contacts, or no one. The additional option “My contacts except…” allows users to select specific contacts that they do not want to see as last seen.

This will give users more control over who can see the last time they were online, and maybe a good way to avoid certain contacts, making you feel like you’re not online to reply to their messages. However, they should still be able to see you when you are online. And while the option to block the entire contact is still there, this option is a lot like “soft block” in that they will still be able to contact you.

The option also accesses a profile picture and an about section. It is published with WhatsApp 2.21.23.14 beta and can be accessed from the privacy settings of the sub-account under each respective option.

As shown in the image above, if you hide your last seen status from anyone, you will also not be able to see their status. However, WABetaInfo notes that this limitation does not apply to a profile photo or an About section.

The feature is gradually being rolled out to some beta testers on the best Android phones, so those using the beta channel may not notice the option right away.
