According to Mayor Philip Close who, together with green spaces alderman Zubida Gelb (Ecolo), opened a joyful party rather than an official ceremony open to residents, this event precedes by a few months a new phase towards the dematerialization of the Neo project: the start of development work in the sports park.

The expansion and redevelopment of this green space itself represents the first stage in the greening of the plateau, which will eventually provide 40% more green space.

This park also improves the connection between Chaussée Romaine and Rue Impératrice Charlotte. Pedestrians and cyclists heading from Parking C towards the front of the Exhibition Palaces and King Baudouin Stadium can use it.

Verregat Park has been available to residents in its new configuration for a few months, but the opening has been delayed due to the pandemic. The park also made it possible to receive Ukrainian refugees who had come to wait there patiently, last spring, to get to the registration center organized in one of the exhibition halls.

The park has been expanded from 1.2 to 1.7 hectares. The stadium has been redesigned. A playground for man’s best friend was made available to the locals. This green space also contains a multi-sport court and outdoor fitness equipment.
