Tanya Kontoianni becomes President of the UDA

Actress Tania Kontoianni won her election against actor Pierre-Luc Brillant as president of the Union of Artists.

Thus, she succeeds the new president, Sophie Pregent, who has held this position since October 2013. She received 51% of the vote in the second round of the elections, against 49% for her opponent.

Very active in the world of theater, television and film since leaving the Institute of Performing Arts, Tania Kontoianni intends to prioritize communication with and mobilize members during her tenure.

“A very close result, in my opinion, means that the members want us to unite and work in the same direction. That is obviously my intention,” she said in a press release on Friday.

The actress also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Université Laval in Quebec. She joined the UDA Board of Directors in 2017. She has been treasurer of the Professional Artists Guild since 2019.

The Board of Directors meets in an extraordinary session on April 12 to elect the members who will form the Management Committee, including the Vice-Chairman, the General Secretariat and the Treasury.

For this election, 30% of active members exercised their right to vote in the first and second rounds.
