(Pasadena) A winter storm that produced severe weather and winter precipitation along the Gulf Coast moved east Wednesday, hours after it spawned a tornado that caused extensive damage in the Houston area and injured at least three people in Louisiana.
Meteorologists say the storm will now bring dangerous winds to parts of Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas.
Winter weather advisories are in effect from Missouri to Maine, and parts of New England could receive 8 to 12 inches of snow, according to the U.S. National Weather Service.
The weather system is dumping snow and ice over a large area of Central America.
Schools and businesses were closed Wednesday in Oklahoma, where up to 15 centimeters of snow fell in the central and eastern parts of the state. More than 100,000 customers were without power in Arkansas Wednesday afternoon, and nearly 70,000 in Missouri, where heavy snow fell in the Ozark Mountains on Tuesday.
