Scheffel questions his future with planes

After 642 regular season games in the lap of the Winnipeg Jets, pivotal player Mark Scheifele could develop under another skies next season.

“I have to think about my career and what is best for me. I will discuss with my agents and family,” Scheffel said on Sunday, whose words were picked up by Sportsnet.

The Jets had a tough season, missing the playoffs thanks to a 39-32-11 record. The 29-year-old thinks he is in the prime of his life and has just scored 70 points in 67 games.

“It’s been a tough year, a year I’m going to try to forget a little bit, restrictive. But you can’t hold on to it and you have to come back better next year.

“I’d like to stay in Winnipeg, but I have to see where the team is going and I imagine we will see that this summer.”

Scheifele is linked to the Jets until 2024 and will have a salary of $6.125 million on payroll for the next two seasons.

Cheveldayoff’s return

In addition, according to Sportsnet, the Manitoba team has offered a three-year contract extension to its general manager, Kevin Sheffieldev.

It’s not clear if interim head coach Dave Lowery will return next season, having hit a record 26-22-6 since taking the job.
