Santa Claus is coming to town.
Transport Minister Omar Al-Ghabra has accepted the “special assignment” to allow Santa Claus and his reindeer to fly across Canadian airspace this Christmas, in a video released by Transport Canada.
“I am honored to allow Santa Claus and his reindeer crew to travel across the skies across Canada this year,” Al-Ghabra said in a statement on Friday. “When I spoke to Santa Claus, he assured me that everything was ready to give gifts to Canadian children. I would like to wish all Canadians from coast to coast a merry Christmas and a festive holiday season.
Safety inspectors also cleared Santa’s sleigh for takeoff after testing the landing gear and ensuring that all navigation and communications systems were working. Even Santa’s reindeer harnesses have been checked to make sure they’re safe for the trip.
Santa Claus and his traveling team are also given a medical check-up.
“In a safe message to Minister Al-Ghabra earlier this week, Santa Claus confirmed that he completed his last test flight this year and verified that he and his reindeer showed no signs of COVID-19 symptoms before take off,” the statement read.
During a video conference with Canada’s chief public health officer, Dr. Theresa Tam, Ms. Close shared her advice on how to protect yourself from COVID-19 this holiday season.
“I always tell Santa to make a list! And double check it! First, stay up to date on your immunizations. Second, wear a mask in crowded indoor spaces — and make sure it fits properly. Third, wash your hands to the tune of Jingle Bells,” Mrs. Klaus said in the video.
Canadians can track Santa’s overnight trip on Christmas Eve with the Norad Santa tracker.
