SAAQ services crippled: Their flight to Florida is delayed

The suspension of many services at the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) due to digital transformation is causing a headache for many Quebecers.

Such is the case of Robin Lavoie and Kathleen Théberge, from Saint-Just-de-Bretenières, in Chaudière-Appalaches, who were to leave Thursday morning for a two-month trip to Florida, in their recreational vehicle.

But now, since January 26, it is impossible to remove a vehicle from storage, due to work on the computer system.

“We are stuck in the big system, we can’t do anything. We can’t de-register our car,” explained Mr. Lavoie.

The couple has been preparing for this trip for eleven months already. The camp is paid for and the employers are notified of their departure.

“It brings lots and lots of frustration and lots of limitations.”

The couple regrets the lack of communication on the part of the SAAQ.

“Originally, the system said that the online service would not be available, so we said we would go to the branch to get our car back in order. But going online also means that the branches are not available.”

According to them, the Crown should have planned better for the exceptions, but also warned the population better of what was to come.

“If we had only listened to the instructions to leave on the 20th of February, it would have taken 3 weeks off our vacation, which had been planned for 11 months,” said Ms Tyberg.

“Those reservations, if we cancel, there are costs that are incurred as well,” Mr. Lavoie added.

In order to be able to leave as quickly as possible, the couple have been trying for two days to obtain a letter of authorization allowing them to drive their recreational vehicle while waiting to be able to proceed with its demise on the new online portal on February 20th.

“To get the letter, we don’t know when we will be able to get it, we will have to go to the SAAQ offices with proof of reservation for our camps or accommodation and the documents necessary to withdraw it. »

From January 26th, to February 20th, many SAAQclic services were unavailable while the new SAAQclic online service was being built.
