Rudy Giuliani faces ethics charges for his role with Trump

Rudy Giuliani, the prominent attorney who represented Donald Trump in a failed attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election, is now facing charges of breach of professional ethics, the latest blow to his career after his license was suspended in New York and the District of Columbia.

The Office of Disciplinary Counsel, the disciplinary arm of the Columbia Bar Association, has sued the former federal prosecutor and the mayor of New York City, alleging that it sponsored unfounded allegations of voter fraud in Pennsylvania. The lawsuit was filed on June 6 and posted on Friday.

Subject matter: Mr. Giuliani’s allegations in support of a lawsuit by Mr. Trump’s campaign to nullify the results of the presidential election in Pennsylvania. That lawsuit, which sought to invalidate up to 1.5 million mail-in ballot papers, was rejected by the courts.

The Board of Directors’ office said Giuliani’s conduct violated the Pennsylvania Code of Ethics In that he filed a lawsuit and argued in cases that have no basis in law and in fact to do this and That he participated in acts prejudicial to the administration of justice.

The Board requested that the Appeals Committee be heard in the District Court of Columbia regarding professional liability. According to the filing, Giuliani has 20 days to respond. It was impossible to speak to a lawyer for Mr. Giuliani on Saturday.

The move is the latest against Giuliani for his role in Donald Trump’s overt allegations that the 2020 presidential election was fraudulent.

Last June, the Court of Appeal suspended him from work from practicing law in New York because he made false statements while trying to persuade the courts to overturn the defeat of the incumbent president. A disciplinary panel of lawyers had asked the court to suspend his license on the grounds that he had violated the rules of professional conduct by promoting theories that the presidential election had been won by fraud.

The Columbia Bar Association temporarily suspended his work last July, although the practical implication of that lawsuit is debatable since Mr. Giuliani’s license to law in Washington has been inactive since 2002.

The new House move comes on the heels of the first public hearing of the House of Representatives Committee to investigateCapitol riot January 6, 2021. Rudy Giuliani met the committee for hours last month.
