Quebec launches 17 missions abroad to hire 3,000 workers

construction Quebec days It will enable entrepreneurs, various government departments and NGOs, such as Quebec International, Montreal International and the Drummondville Foundation for Economic Development (SDED), to be recruited internationally.

To participate in Journées Québec, a company with 49 employees or less must pay $1,500. Those with 50 employees will have to pay double.

By March 31, 2023, the government wants to use these days to accommodate 3,000 immigrants, double the number recruited in 2021-2022.

It is expected that from 2021 to 2030, there will be approximately 1.4 million jobs to be filled, predicts the Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Solidarity Jean Boulet. For example, in April 2022, there were 27,000 vacancies in Capitale-Nationale, compared to 11,000 in Chaudière-Appalaches.

Quebec wants 22% of the labor that immigrants need.

The missions will be conducted in particular in Morocco, Brazil, France, Mexico and Colombia in particular. We will specifically target people who practice trades or professions found in our extensive workforce operationswhether in areas such as health, education, childcare, information technology, engineering and construction.

Emphasis will be placed on francophone countries or countries with a francotropic orientation. The French language is a key factor in successful integration and retention rate, especially in regionsMinister mentions.

Lots of jobs to fill

Supermétal, which operates plants in Lévis, Sherbrooke and Leduc, Alberta, suspects the Quebec declaration will turn things around. The company has 350 employees.

The lack of staff is stark. Here, at Levis, we’re short on about 30% of our workforce. In Sherbrooke, we can double our staffsays Jean-Philippe Dassault, Director of Human Resources at Supermétal.

There are approximately 11,000 vacancies in Chaudière-Appalaches. Take those three thousand people, in Chaudière-Appalaches only, who do not meet the needs. »

Quote from Jean-Philippe Dassault, Director of Human Resources at Supermétal

The company conducted a recruitment mission in Colombia, on its own, in 2019. It was able to hire 40 employees. The cost of hiring an employee is estimated to be between $7,000 and $10,000.

But the problem is not solved today and international recruitment is the main solution, according to the company. In our factories, our conditions are good, but they are not enough to attract local workers.

Immigration goal

Quebec has set itself the goal of welcoming more than 50,000 immigrants in the coming years. Minister Boulet assured that the Quebec trip would not have any impact on this threshold.

Migration is temporary. The objectives apply more specifically after obtaining a Quebec Choice Certificate to people who wish to become permanent residents. There is no question to review goals.
