Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau held a meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. They were then in London to attend the state funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The leaders noted that his exemplary life of service to his people has inspired people all over the world.

Both prime ministers condemned Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence, and discussed their common desire to further assist the country.

The Prime Ministers reaffirmed their shared commitment to combating climate change. They agreed to strengthen their cooperation on climate action, particularly to ensure the success of the 15e Conference of the Parties (COP15) to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, 27e Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27). The Prime Ministers also spoke about cooperation in the global supply of key minerals.

Prime Minister Trudeau and Prime Minister Albanese discussed recent developments in China and the Indo-Pacific region. They reaffirmed the importance of working with partners and allies to foster regional stability and preserve the rules-based international order within the G20.

The two leaders agreed to continue to work closely together on shared priorities, including advancing gender equality, meaningful reconciliation with indigenous peoples and building economic growth that works for all.
