Star journalist Patrick Lagasse will succeed Paul Arcand as the helm of 98.5 FM’s morning program. He will take over from the fall of 2024.
The announcement was made Wednesday morning during the broadcast Since you have to get up, confirming the persistent rumors of the past few weeks. Vice President of Spoken Radio for the Cogeco Group, Pierre Martineau, explained on the air with his sights set on Patrick Lagacé for his “press profile”, “credibility” and “notoriety”.
Paul Arcand, 62, had already announced last June that he would not renew his contract, which expires in June 2024.
Nicknamed “The King of the Airwaves”, he has been at the top of the ratings in the Greater Montreal area for twenty years, first on station CKAC on the AM band, and then, since 2004, on 98.5 FM.
Building on the success of its morning show, Cogeco Group remains by far the most listened to radio station in the D.C. area, at all times on weekdays. An established fact that was further confirmed in the latest data from Numeris published last week.
Patrick Lagasse joined 98.5 FM in 2019, where he has been hosting since the comeback show, Quebec now. A popular and sometimes controversial figure, he still writes a language column Journalism Since 2013, she has co-hosted the talk show Two golden men in Tele-Québec.
In a text posted to his Facebook page, he said he would continue to write in Pages Journalism, where he has worked since 2007, but on a less regular basis. However, his column will take a break from August 2024 to January 2025, during his first months at the helm of the 98.5 FM morning show.
Thanks to François Cardinal, my editor-in-chief Journalism. François enthusiastically supported me when I told him what I had in mind on 98.5 FM. He didn’t force me to choose. […] This link I developed with readers Journalism Since 2007 he is too strong to keep cultivating it,” stressed the former Frank-Tyrore.
Patrick Lagasse also expressed his desire to revive the team Quebec now who will continue to be his host on 98.5 FM for the next year and a half. His passage from the return slot to the morning slot frees up a host seat. It is unclear who will lead the program in the late afternoons starting in August 2024.
