Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Ilya Samsonov left Game 3 of the series against the Florida Panthers on Sunday in the second half after Leafs defender Luke Shinn collided with him on a running back.
Josef Wall replaced Samsonov, who had been on the ice for a while before leaving.
Shinn and the Leafs also earned a three-point penalty, giving Florida their first solid game of the night. Anthony Dockler also scored on the power play to tie the game at 1-1.
Samsonov made eight saves before leaving. In eight playoff games heading into Sunday, Samsonov has a 3.27 goals-against average and 895 goals scored.
After the game, Leafs head coach Sheldon Cave did not give his goalie an update, adding that Wall was “up for the challenge”.
In fact, another Leafs goaltender, Matt Murray, has been given the go-ahead by doctors to return to play and may be an option for Sheldon Cave in Game 4.
Game four takes place Wednesday night in Sunrise, Florida.
