NHL: Hurricanes signs veteran center Paul Stastny to one-year contract

The Carolina Hurricanes added a seasoned center Tuesday, weeks before the start of NHL training camps.

Team Rally announced that they have offered a one-year contract worth $1.5 million Paul Stastney.

“Paul is a highly reliable veteran and has been instrumental on both ends of the ice throughout his career,” Hurricane General Manager Don Waddell said in a statement. He adds experience and leadership to our attacking squad and we are delighted to have him. ยป

The 36-year-old Stastney will make his fifth NHL roster after the Colorado Avalanche, St. Louis Blues, Vegas Golden Knights and Winnipeg Jets.

In 2021-2022, in Manitoba, the Quebec-born attacking player had 21 goals and 24 assists for 45 points in 71 games.

Selecting a second round avalanche in 2005, 44th overall, Stastney also helped the United States win the silver medal at the Vancouver Olympics in 2010 and bronze at the World Hockey Championships in 2013.

Since 2006, he has racked up 800 points in 1,072 matches at Pittman Circuit.
