NHL – Hockey: The Sabers present the Leafs in Owen Power’s first game

The Buffalo Sabers set off to a 5-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs to celebrate the NHL debut for Owen Power, the #1 pick for the 2021 NHL auction.

Power finished the game with a plus 2 record. He also gave a check and stopped a shot as well as creating a spin in 19 minutes and 50 seconds of play. He was particularly on the ice for a shortened 1:29.

“I think I was calm, but there were still a few butterflies, but it wasn’t too bad,” Bauer said after the match.

“When the game starts and you show up on a regular basis, it’s just hockey at the end. It’s a game against top players,” he added.

Kyle Okposo, Tag Thompson, Jeff Skinner, Rasmus Dahlin and Rasmus Asplund scored goals for Sabers. Dahlin and Asplund have added help. Victor Olofsson and Alex Tosh finished the match with two points thanks to assists.

Timothy Lillegren and Alexander Kervut scored for the Maple Leafs. Morgan Riley had assists with both of his goals. For his part, Auston Matthews, who is just one point short of a 100-point season, was released. The 34th player may become the first Maple Leafs player to score 100 points in a single season since Doug Gilmore in 1993-94.

Matthews has been on the scoring list in his team’s last 16 games. Teammate Mitch Marner has done the same in the last 13 games.

Craig Anderson blocked 23 shots to help the Sabers win the series against the Maple Leafs by 3 to 1 wins. It is the first time since 2016 that the sword has outrun the foliage in a single season. Leafs goalkeeper Eric Calgren also saved 23 pucks.
